Workshops & Retreats

Workshop Methods

I use two primary methods in my workshops and retreats:

The Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method, founded by Pat Schneider, which is a time-tested way to encourage writers to be bold and experimental with their writing.

Journaling, which draws on the pioneering work of Kathleen Adams, founder of the Center for Journal Therapy and the Journal to the Self® method.

I have indicated which method is primary in each of the listings below (although sometimes I do like to mix and match!). For more information about each of these methods, click on the links above.

All workshops are offered on Zoom in the Eastern time zone unless stated otherwise.

Mother Stories
Friday, May 10, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. EDT
Online via Zoom

Everyone's got one: a mother (of course), but also mother stories--how we were mothered and by whom, how we mother others, how we mother ourselves. Join me for this special workshop devoted to those who love us, drive us crazy, and help us become fully ourselves. Writers at any level of experience are welcome!

This workshop is part of an annual fundraiser for Amherst Writers & Artists. All proceeds from this workshop will support AWA and their scholarship fund.

To register, go to my workshop listing on the AWA website. Donations from $20 to $40 are gratefully accepted.

Surprised by Poems: A Women's Writing Circle
Saturday, June 15, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
In person at Market Street Writers in Leesburg, VA

Let's play! In this Amherst Writers & Artists writing circle, we will (re)discover the joy of reading and creating poems. We'll experiment with different forms and subjects and allow ourselves to be surprised by what we create. Who says poetry can't be fun? As always, we will come together in community to respond to writing prompts and share our work in a safe, sacred space. Women writers at any level of experience are welcome. A simple lunch will be provided afterward for those who wish to partake.
